We are thrilled to see WMM filmmakers and program alum premiering six new films and two VR projects at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival! Six WMM makers have also been selected to the jury.

Michèle Stephenson’s, director of WMM’s newest release STATELESS, will be premiering her latest VR project: THE CHANGING SAME: EPISODE 1, an immersive experience that uses time travel and magical realism to pilgrimage through the evolution of racial violence in the United States. Grace Lee (dir. THE GRACE LEE PROJECT) will also be showcasing her latest VR project BEYOND THE BREAKDOWN at the festival as well. Both projects can be viewed on-demand throughout the duration of the festival with the purchase of a pass.
FAYA DAYI, made with the support of WMM’s Production Assistance Program, will have its world premiere at the festival. New films from program alums Lauren DeFilippo (AILEY), Maisie Crow (AT THE READY), Nico Opper (TRY HARDER), Camilla Neilsson (PRESIDENT), and Natalia Almada (USERS) will also be premiering. This year’s jury members include celebrated voices across film, art and culture. WMM jury members include Julie Dash, Kim Longinotto, Isaac Julien, Lydia Dean Pilcher, Production Assistance Program alum Lana Wilson, and Joy Buolamwini, an MIT Media Lab researcher featured in WMM new release Coded Bias, which premiered at Sundance in 2020.
The festival runs January 28 through February 3, 2021. Marketing & Engagement Manager Emily Abi-Kheirs will be in attendance.
