The Creative Arts Emmy Awards celebrate the technical and artistic achievements that elevate television, and this win highlights the documentary’s exceptional approach to capturing the legacy of one of America’s most influential poets and activists.
GOING TO MARS takes audiences on a thought-provoking journey through the life and mind of legendary poet Nikki Giovanni. Through a blend of archival footage, animation, and deeply personal interviews, the film explores themes of race, gender, and the boundless possibilities of the human spirit. Giovanni’s unapologetic voice and visionary outlook are masterfully captured by Stephenson and Brewster, making this film not just a documentary, but a powerful cultural statement.
