We’re excited to share that several WMM films and filmmakers have been recognized on Ms. Magazine’s list of the Best Feminist Documentaries of 2024!
The list includes WMM release RAZING LIBERTY SQUARE, directed by Katja Esson, whose films we have been distributing for more than 20 years. This powerful documentary dives into the devastating effects of climate gentrification on Miami’s historically Black neighborhood of Liberty Square. Through deeply personal stories, the film captures the community’s fight against displacement and sheds light on systemic injustice.
Three films made with support from our Production Assistance Program also made the list: GOING TO MARS: THE NIKKI GIOVANNI PROJECT (directed by Michèle Stephenson and Joe Brewster); IT’S ONLY LIFE AFTER ALL (directed by Alexandria Bombach); and TWICE COLONIZED (directed by Lin Alluna).
Additionally, two films by Production Assistance Program alum Dawn Porter – DEADLOCKED: HOW AMERICA SHAPED THE SUPREME COURT and THE LADY BIRD DIARIES – were highlighted.
This acknowledgment celebrates the incredible work of filmmakers who are championing justice, equity, and feminist stories. Congratulations to all the filmmakers recognized! For the full list and more details, visit Ms. Magazine.
