Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival took place April 29th – May 9th and WMM films and filmmakers were honored with two awards for their creative vision and boundary-pushing documentaries!
Lalita Krishna, a Production Assistance Program supported filmmaker and the producer of BANGLA SURF GIRLS, was awarded the Don Haig Award at Hot Docs 2021. This award is given to outstanding independent Canadian producers with a film in the festival in recognition of their creative vision, entrepreneurship, and track record for supporting emerging talent. In that same vein, the recipient of this award receives a $5,000 cash prize they can pass onto an emerging female documentary filmmaker. Lalita Krishna named PA filmmaker and director of BANGLA SURF GIRLS, Elizabeth D. Costa, as the recipient.
FAYA DAYI (dir. Jessy Beshir), made with the support of our PA Program, won Top Film in the Hot Docs Markers Program. The Markers program offers a curated spotlight of the most formally innovative and boundary-pushing docs.
Congratulations to our filmmakers! A full list of Hot Docs 2021 Award Winners can be found here.
