Chicken & Egg announced the recipients of their 2023 Chicken & Egg Awards and six of the eight filmmakers selected are WMM filmmakers and Program alum. This program awards women and non-binary documentary filmmakers who are at advanced-career stages with a $75,000 grant as well as a tailored year-long mentorship program targeted to the goals of each individual grant recipient.
Congratulations to our filmmakers Angela Tucker (prod. BELLY OF THE BEAST) and Rea Tajiri (WISDOM GONE WILD, HISTORY AND MEMORY: FOR AKIKO AND TAKASHIGE, YURI KOCHIYAMA: PASSION FOR JUSTICE), as well as Program alums Nico Opper, Sabaah Folayan, Ilinca Calugareanu and Sonia Kennebeck.
Chicken & Egg Pictures recently expanded their definition of advanced-career directors to encompass a broader set of backgrounds and experiences in recognition of a challenging landscape faced by women and non-binary filmmakers and taking into account the impact of institutional barriers and structures on the development of one’s career. This year’s grantees are filmmakers with established careers in the documentary industry including both commissioned and independent work.
Congratulations to all!
