Debra Zimmerman recently returned from two weeks in Malawi and Zambia. She traveled as an envoy for the American Film Showcase, the premier American film diplomacy program that organizes screenings and workshops with American filmmakers and film experts. Almost 100 participants participated in the workshops she and filmmaker Tracie Holder presented in the Lliongwe, Kitwe and Lusaka programs. And later this month, she will be going to Helsinki, Finland, where she will be one of the Documentary Jury members for the Finnish Film Affair. She will also be giving a talk, “Women Make Movies: From Alice Guy Blaché to Barbie,” at various universities and presenting welcoming and closing remarks at the biannual Women In Film and Television International (WIFTI) conference which is taking place in Helsinki this year.
