WMM is excited to announce its presence at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival! Two new releases will screen:

  • MY SEXTORTION DIARY (directed by Patricia Franquesa, produced by Patricia Franquesa and Mireia Graell), a gripping firsthand account of a woman fighting online blackmail after receiving a chilling threat demanding $2,400.
  • MY STOLEN PLANET (directed by Farahnaz Sharifi, produced by Anke Petersen, Lilian Tietjen, and Farzad Pak), an intimate look at women’s lives in Tehran—mixing personal and found 8mm archives to contrast private joy with public defiance.

From our Production Assistance Program:

  • EMERGENT CITY (directed by Kelly Anderson, produced by Brenda Ávila-Hanna and Kelly Anderson), chronicling a decade in a working-class Brooklyn neighborhood facing development.
  • The North American Premiere of SONGS OF SLOW BURNING EARTH (directed by Olha Zhurba, produced by Darya Bassel), an audiovisual diary capturing Ukraine’s immersion into the first two years of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

APPALHEADS (directed by PA Alum Scott Faris, produced by PA Alum Meg Griffiths) has its World Premiere, and SXSW is also presenting a retrospective of PA Alum Brett Story’s work.

New projects from WMM filmmakers are premiering as well: ESTRANGED LETTERS, a new film by WMM Filmmaker and PA Alum Assia Boundaoui (FEELING OF BEING WATCHED), and THE QUILTERS, a new film by WMM filmmaker Jenifer McShane (MOTHERS OF BEDFORD).

Click on each film for screening dates and times. The 22nd Big Sky Documentary Film Festival happens February 14–23, 2025.
