It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved godmother of the feminist documentary film, Julia Reichert. As with everything she did in her life, she fought her battle with urothelial cancer extraordinarily and valiantly. Julia will be admired for her inspiration and mentorship of two generations of women and documentary filmmakers characterized by her passion, talent, honesty, and her commitment to equality for all. She made some of the most important documentaries of all time — from her introductory film, GROWING UP FEMALE, to AMERICAN FACTORY to the powerful and heartbreaking film A LION IN THE HOUSE. She lit a light for all of us — feminists, filmmakers, and activists alike. We will miss her in this world, but we are at peace knowing her light shines brightly around the world. All of us at Women Make Movies pay tribute to our dear friend and colleague, Julia Reichert.
