Two films made with support of Women Make Movies’s Production Assistance Program took home awards at CPH:DOX this year.
9 MONTH CONTRACT (dir. Ketevan Vashagashvili, prod. Anna Khazaradze, Nino Chichua, Martichka Bozhilova & Sylvia Nagel) won the Human Rights Award for its unflinching look at the surrogacy industry in Georgia. Told through the lens of a single mother risking everything for her daughter’s future, this intimate portrait of sacrifice and survival is now seeking U.S. distribution.
HOUSE NO. 7 (dir. Rama Abdy, prod. Hazar Yazji) won the Rise and Shine Award for its poignant chronicle of three women in Damascus navigating war, womanhood, and whether to leave the only home they know.
Additionally, WMM filmmaker Geeta Gandbhir received a Special Mention for THE PERFECT NEIGHBOR, a chilling doc on racism, violence, and Florida’s “stand your ground” laws—told entirely through real-life footage.
Congratulations to the filmmakers!
