Celebrating Wins: WRITING HAWA and MY STOLEN PLANET at IDFA 2024

Women Make Movies is thrilled to celebrate two incredible wins at the 2024 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), highlighting the remarkable work of WMM-supported filmmakers.

WMM new acquisition MY STOLEN PLANET, directed by Farahnaz Sharifi, received the esteemed Beeld & Geluid IDFA ReFrame Award, accompanied by a €5,000 prize. Using the essayistic style of a diary, this captivating and critically-acclaimed film, which also recently won the Silver Hugo for Best International Documentary at Chicago, traces how the Islamic Revolution changed life for women in Iran.

Najiba Noori’s WRITING HAWA, made with the support of our Production Assistance Program, has been honored with the prestigious FIPRESCI Award. This world premiere follows the poignant journey of Hawa, exploring themes of identity, resilience, and creativity. Najiba Noori’s masterful direction has captivated audiences and critics alike, solidifying WRITING HAWA as one of this year’s standout documentaries.
