We’re happy to announce that four films from our Production Assistance Program have received grants from the NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre! These awards highlight the incredible talent and vision of women filmmakers creating impactful stories across a variety of genres.
The following WMM-supported projects have been recognized:
Fiction Feature:
FAMILIAR TOUCH (dir. Sarah Friedland)
This coming-of-(old)-age film follows an octogenarian woman navigating life in assisted living. As she faces shifting memories, age identity, and desires, the film delves into her complex relationships with herself and her caregivers.
Fiction Short:
SLEEP TRAINING (dir. Sunita Prasad)
In this gripping short, a new parent grappling with postpartum depression experiences surreal hallucinations, ultimately prompting a desperate escape from the confines of motherhood.
Documentary Feature:
ON THREE WHEELS (dir. Cionín Lorenzo)
This heartwarming documentary focuses on a Puerto Rican bike mechanic who designs adaptive bikes for children with limited mobility. Through his work, he brings joy, freedom, and physical therapy to families raising children with disabilities.
ARREST THE MIDWIFE (dir. Elaine Epstein)
The arrest of several midwives in a rural healthcare desert spurs an unexpected movement, as Amish and Mennonite women break with tradition to advocate for reproductive rights in their community.
Additionally, PA alum Shawn Batey received a grant for her documentary webseries WE KEEP US SAFE, which tells five stories of activists in the NYC Black Lives Matter Movement.
