WMM release ILLUSIONS, a breakthrough film by the legendary Julie Dash (DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST), which WMM has been proud to distribute since the ’80s, has been restored. IndieCollect has completed the 4K restoration of ILLUSIONS. This restored version is premiering as part of “Passing You By: Impostorism on Film,” curated by Jessica Green.
Made in 1982 but set in 1940s Hollywood, and named to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2020, ILLUSIONS follows Mignon Duprée (a radiant Lonette McKee), a Black studio executive passing for white and spotlights racism within the film industry.
The premiere of IndieCollect’s restoration of ILLUSIONS by Julie Dash will take place at BAM on August 10, 2024. Senior restoration colorist Eva Yuma led the picture restoration team and will join Julie Dash and Jessica Green for an on-stage dialogue at the event.
