Following nearly sold-out and extended theatrical runs in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Miami, BYE BYE TIBERIAS (dir. Lina Soualem), will have its Philadelphia premiere at the BlackStar Film Festival. Check out our blog for additional screening dates and times.
Four films made with the support of WMM’s Production Assistance Program are premiering:
- DIS-EASE – Directed and Produced by Mariam Ghani; World Premiere
- THE BALLAD OF SUZANNE CÉSAIRE – Directed by Madeleine Hunt-Ehrlich; North American Premiere
- A MOTHER APART – Directed by Laurie Townshend, Produced by Alison Duke, Ngardy Conteh George, and Justine Pimlott; US Premiere
- STANDING ABOVE THE CLOUDS – Directed by Jalena Keane-Lee, Produced by Amber Espinosa-Jones, Erin Lau, and Jalena Kean-Lee; East Coast Premiere
TENTSÍTEWAHKWE, a new short film from WMM filmmaker Katsitsionni Fox (dir. WITHOUT A WHISPER – KONNON:KWE and OHERO:KON- UNDER THE HUSK) will have its Philadelphia premiere at the festival.
Running from August 1-4, 2024, at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, this year’s BlackStar festival celebrates the visual and storytelling traditions of Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities worldwide.
