Justine Pimlott made her directorial debut in 2000 by producing, directing and writing the hour-long documentary LAUGH IN THE DARK. The film won the Best Social Issue Documentary Award at the 2000 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival and Best Canadian Film at the Inside Out Film & Video Festival in Toronto. LAUGH IN THE DARK was also nominated for the Ontario Arts Councilís prestigious Chalmers Documentary Award and has played at film festivals around the world.
Since producing, writing and directing LAUGH IN THE DARK, Justine has gone on to direct several episodes of a13-part reality series, Fire Station, for the Discovery Channel, and Chasing the Dream, a pre-Olympic, one-hour special for CBC Sports on international womenís hockey.
In 2003 Justine co-created, co-produced and co-directed the critically acclaimed six-part reality series on womenís boxing for the Life Network, entitled PUNCH LIKE A GIRL, for which she received two Gemini nominations for Best Direction in a Documentary series.
In 2005 Justine directed FAG HAGS: WOMEN WHO LOVE GAY MEN, which won the Audience Award for Best Film at the Inside Out Film & Video Festival and the Audience Award for Best Canadian Film at the Reel Out Festival. The documentary was broadcast on CBCís The Passionate Eye, SRC in Quebec, and is slated for broadcast on Showcase. The film is currently screening at festivals around the globe and has been sold to numerous international broadcast territories.
Recently Justine produced GIRL INSIDE, a feature length documentary directed by Maya Gallus. The film premiered at Hot Docs 2007 and has shown at various festivals, including DOXA, New Fest, Frameline, Atlantic Film Festival and St Johnís International Womenís Film Festival. The documentary is scheduled for broadcast on TVOntarioís The View From Here and The Knowledge Network.
Justineís latest project is called CAT CITY and looks at the issue cat over population in Canada. (7/12)
